· 2009 High Desert Writing Project Summer Institute Duration: June 4 - July 3 (Tue through Fri) 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Here is an opportunity to be part of a community of writers dedicated to improving the teaching of writing and the use of writing across the disciplines. The project offers high-quality professional development programs for educators K-16 and across the curriculum. In addition to this professional development opportunity, the HDWP provides its participants -- at no cost -- with six graduate level hours in the College of Education's Department of Language, Literacy & Sociocultural Studies. · (NM & CA) Summer science program: The Summer Science Program for high school juniors is a six-week residential enrichment program in which students, working in teams of three, learn enough astrophysics, calculus and programming to observe a near-Earth asteroid and calculate its orbit. High school juniors who are gifted in math and science, currently taking calculus or planning to next fall and demonstrate motivation and good character may apply. There are two campuses - one at New Mexico Tech in Socorro and one in Ojai, Calif. with 36 students at each. Sandians participate as guest lecturers. It is free to New Mexico residents thanks to a state government grant that will pay the $3,750 program fee. For more information, click here. · Theater: Theatre-in-the-Making is a theater organization for children and youth that has been operating in Albuquerque for almost twenty years. TitM offers conservatory-level instruction in theater arts for a very modest price. The results of the ensemble acting work produced by TitM’s youthful participants always astound.
