In late September 2017, a new board was elected to continue the important work of advocating for and supporting the needs of gifted children in Albuquerque. As we continue this transition, please know that we will do all that we can to support you, whether it is attending an IEP meeting with you or helping you find resources to support your family member(s).
Right now, we are busily planning the 39th annual conference, to take place January 27, 2018. We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker is Dr. Edward R. Amend of Lexington, Kentucky. He is the coauthor of two best selling books, Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, Bipolar, OCD, Asperger’s, Depression, and Other Disorders and A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children. Dr. Amend is a clinical psychologist who specializes in social, emotional, and behavioral health of gifted children and adults. We will announce additional conference details as soon as we can.
Additionally, we will reconvene the monthly meet-ups--enrichment sessions for children where they have the opportunity to do fun, interesting things such as game and puzzle sessions, dissecting animal hearts, and other intriguing activities. Watch the AAGTS calendar for dates and details.
Lastly, I wish to give a warm thanks to the past board. They have done an amazing job helping teachers, parents, and gifted children in our community. They continue to actively advise the new board to ensure a smooth transition and provide all of the institutional knowledge that only comes from years of experience.
